SS321 Pipe:

Stainless Steel 321 SS Pipe is a stable version of the Stainless Steel grade 304. In addition to its 18/8 ratio of Chromium and Nickel this alloy is tempered with titanium. This gives SS321 Pipe the additional property of resistance against intergranular corrosion which occurs as a consequence of heat treatment. ASTM A213 UNS S32100 Seamless Welded Pipe Tube can be used without any issues in the temperature range of 430 to 816°C. ASTM A312 Stainless Steel 321 Pipe has high mechanical strength and remains resistant to corrosion even when submerged in water. Major applications include heavy welding machinery and in dynamically changing environments.

The addition of titanium while boosting strength is a detriment to the machinability of SS321 Pipe. The 321 Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe can only be welded using certain specific welding techniques. If we get beyond this limitation the ASME SA312 321 Stainless Steel Pipe, has excellent formability as this metal does not need to be annealed after welding. ASTM A312 TP 321 Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe can work in extreme temperatures even down to cryogenic levels. It is often chosen over 304 when the project requires higher creep and rupture resistance. However both types can be susceptible to cracking due to stress corrosion.
