Hastelloy is a trade name of corrosion-resistant alloys produced by Haynes International.. The ASTM B622, ASTM B474, ASTM B619 specification governs the requirements, dimensions, finish, testing, and packaging of seamless, welded nickel and nickel alloy pipes.
The common grades of Hastelloy pipe is Hastelloy B-2, B-3, C22, C276, C200 and X. Hastelloy C276 is one of the most versatile and widely used. This alloy has excellent resistance to pitting, crevice, and stress-corrosion cracking in a wide range of aggressive media, including sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, acetic acid, and seawater. Therefore, it is commonly used in applications such as scrubbers, absorbers, ducting, and reactors in chemical plants and refineries.

Hastelloy pipes are typically produced by the seamless
or welded method, depending on the application requirements. The
seamless process involves heating a billet of Hastelloy to a temperature
where it can be formed by piercing it with a mandrel. The welded
process involves joining two pieces of Hastelloy by melting them with a
filler metal to form a continuous and uniform seam. Both methods are
capable of producing high-quality pipes, but seamless pipes have better
dimensional accuracy and can withstand higher pressures than welded
pipes.
1. Hastelloy Seamless Pipes: These pipes are formed by piercing a solid billet of Hastelloy material, followed by rolling and stretching to achieve the desired dimensions. This technique produces a continuous, uninterrupted pipe with no internal or external seams, making it ideal for high-pressure and critical applications.
2. Hastelloy Welded Pipes: These pipes are made by joining two or more sections of Hastelloy material using a welding process. The welding can be done using various techniques, including TIG, MIG, and SAW. Once welded, the pipe is annealed to relieve stresses and improve its corrosion resistance.
Hastelloy is a trademarked family of nickel-based superalloys that contain high amounts of molybdenum, chromium and nickel. These materials offer excellent resistance to corrosion, oxidation and other forms of chemical attack, making them ideal for use in harsh environments such as chemical processing plants, oil refineries and offshore drilling rigs.
